What is the key to clear communication and design articulation?
Communicating design well is the product of good business, and the purpose of effective branding.
Welcome to the Driftime® Desk, a newsletter for the latest happenings, thoughts, finds, and vibes from the better parts of human nature through the lens of design.
What steps can we take to optimise our professional articulation, and limit room for misinterpretation? Clear and concise communication is key. We articulate our core principles by, through, and for design with the ambition of positive connection between businesses and the people who run them. Interpretation can be sticky. We can get caught between intention and outcome, and instead of running ahead with innovation, we can get left behind with inaccuracies, confusion and avoidable mistakes.
Articulation and transparency go hand in hand - as a design community we are working through an age of radical honesty, taking every opportunity to hold ourselves accountable for the decisions that influence our environment, our clients, and ourselves. Working on clarity and being concise requires a level of internal understanding and connection to core principles and priorities. There is little room for misinterpretation if your message is clear, precise, and true to your authentic beliefs.
And who’s doing this right? We’ve been following Finisterre for some time, the Sea7 summit proved popular and is one such example. Alongside co-designer and creative activist Dan Burgess, hosts an ocean aware training camp, using brand transparency to communicate global goals and ocean insight. What’s the take-away here you ask? Having consistency in your message reduces the chance of misinterpretation, curating a clear design language across the board and from every touch point, helping to present a professional ecosystem designed for an optimistic and responsible future.
